edit these instructions at Instructions:Drill Press (metal)

Adapted from conversation with Lawrence, John, Doug, and Tina: Training for this particular drill press (Metal Room) is informal. Note that for the 20in Drill Press in the Wood Room you need to speak with Paolo for Woodworking Room Training first. Safety glasses are required to operate this equipment. DO NOT WEAR GLOVES WHEN OPERATING THIS EQUIPMENT. This machine can spin with enough speed and force to seriously injure you if you are entangled. Do not wear long sleeves or loose clothing, remove any hanging drawstrings, tags, jewellery, etc, and tie back/secure long hair. If you are wearing gloves for other tasks, REMOVE THEM when operating the drill press. CAUTION: the drill bit, piece you are working on, and any attached pieces (clamps, etc) can get hot when using this machine. In addition to getting hot, the metal can bind suddenly while drilling. Secure your workpiece with clamp(s) while drilling. Do not hold your workpiece by hand. If you are using oil to lubricate/cool the piece during or after drilling, it may be aerosolized while working. Ensure that you are wearing appropriate PPE for the product (check the SDS). Before using the drill press, ensure that the drill bit you are using is rated for the material you are drilling into and is not broken, bent, or dull. Ensure the bit is centered in the chuck and tightened securely. If you are unsure or have concerns about how to operate this device properly, please speak with Graeson. Some drill bits are available in the drawers on the workbenches and tool cubbies.
