Purpose
The belt and disc sander has a rotating sanding belt on one side and a rotating planar disc on the other side. It is used for:
- Light shaping (chamfers, rounding, some profiles)
- Surface preparation (removing defects, burn marks, etc)
Safety
Do:
- Check that the belt is tracking correctly
- Check that the belt or disc is in good condition before starting
- Use an appropriate grit for the task
Do not:
- Press workpieces primarily against the left side of the disc - workpiece may lift or be launched
- Sand metal - metal sanding can cause sparks and damage to equipment/member property
- Put hands close to the sanding belt or disc
Emergency Stop
The belt sander has an emergency stop button.
Operating Procedure
Disc side
- Verify that the correct disc is installed
- Verify that the sander is hooked up to the dust collector
- Turn on the exhaust and dust collector
- Turn on the sander
- Carefully press the workpiece against the right side of the disc. Do not press the workpiece against the left side as it may lift and cause injury/damage
Sanding side
- Verify that the correct belt is installed
- Verify that the sander is hooked up to the dust collector
- Turn on the exhaust and dust collector
- Turn on the sander
- Verify that the belt is tracking correctly left-right. Use the tracking knob to adjust if necessary.
- Press the workpiece against the sander, holding firmly to make sure it doesn't slip

Shutdown and Housekeeping
- Turn off the sander and dust collector.
- Clean the outside of the equipment with a brush.
- Sweep the floor around the sander.
- Replace miter gauge on the pegboard by the miter saw if used.
