So, you're a new member and you just finished your Safety Orientation. Welcome!

But now you're standing there with all this equipment and material around you and no idea what you can do right at this moment.

The good news is that there are a few things you should do, and a few things you can do.

What You Should Do

  • Introduce yourself on Slack and explore/subscribe to the channels that interest you
  • Open Skedda and familiarize yourself with the interface. Don't worry, more stuff will show up in there shortly as you complete training on equipment. Speaking of which...
  • Consider what equipment you'd like training on. Check the list of available Training Sessions. Check out the 125-training channel to see what's currently being offered and ask about getting training on the equipment that interests you. Note that training is offered on equipment, not rooms (except Woodworking Room Training). So being trained on one kind of 3D printer does not mean you can use all the machines in the 3D printing room.

What You Can Do

Interested in getting started right away but haven't had any training yet? Good news! If you're a safety-conscious person who's not afraid of reading a manual, guide, or asking someone for help, just completing the Safety Orientation gives you access to the following equipment and spaces:

Computers

3rd floor

  • The Boardroom (make sure to check and book it in Skedda)
  • The hand tools in the Tool Room, including:
    • Cordless drills, drivers, and impact drivers
    • Cordless sawzalls
    • Hammers
    • Wrenches (including a rather large pipe wrench)
    • Screwdrivers and hex drivers
    • Tapes and levels
    • Clamps
    • Handsaws, hacksaws, coping saws
    • Styrofoam cutters
    • Different sizes of fasteners
  • the Spot Welder
  • Temporary space on an assembly table that's not occupied to do your work

1st floor
